Shotokan Karate—The Complete Curriculum |

This is an instructional DVD series that covers the full Shotokan curriculum content from beginner to 5th degree black belt. The first three DVDs have just been released (in December 2007) and the subsequent DVDs will be released throughout 2008. The initial releases will be of individual DVDs covering beginner, then intermediate, then advanced and finally black belt content. For the final product a complete set will be offered for sale probably by the end of 2008. The content of the instructional DVD series covers all of the core Shotokan curriculum content of kihon, kata and kumite, as well as many important ideas and concepts of the martial arts. The basic techniques of stances, punches, blocks, kicks and strikes are covered at all levels from beginner to black belt. In addition all 26 official Shotokan kata are demonstrated slow-motion, regular speed and with commentary of important points, as well as extended syllabus kata including Gankaku-sho. The kumite content covers five-step sparring (gohon kumite), three-step sparring (sanbon kumite), basic one-step sparring (kihon ippon-kumite), free one-step sparring (jiyu ippon-kumite) and free sparring (jiyu kumite) as well as a multiple opponent demonstration. There are also grading demonstrations to show which techniques, kata and partner work drills are required at each of the different belts all the way up to first degree black belt. And finally the ideas and concepts explanations cover such important topics as etiquette, the ranking system, the kata learning process, speed, power, focus, discipline, the different stages of karate, spirit, harmony and the true meaning of karate among many other important concepts. There is also additional bonus content on mirror image and reverse kata practice, kata application, board breaking and extended syllabus partner work content. Please be patient as we release this whole series in parts. Although filming on the complete set was completed several months ago, the editing of such a huge project with multiple cameras takes many more hours of work. We hope to have the whole set finished soon.
